Background: The CERES Food Project is a community sustaining social enterprise producing certified organic food products while providing accredited training in Hospitality (Cert II Kitchen Operations).
The CERES Food Project is a partnership between CERES, AMES (Adult Multicultural Education Service) and IWWCV (Islamic Women’s Welfare Council of Victoria). It has brought together a group of six local Kurdish and Turkish women with a Chef/trainer. They call themselves the Seven Stars. The Project will train the migrants to work in and run their own commercial food business while making use of seasonal peaks in locally grown organic produce. As business grows, the workers will create permanent employment for themselves whilst gaining small business, food preparation and English language experience.
The Food Project manages a CERES Organic Farm Stall, which attends each of the 4 Melbourne Farmer’s Markets; Collingwood Children’s Farm, The Convent in Abbortsford, Gasworks in South Melbourne and Veg Out in St. Kilda. The stall sells produce from the Farm enterprises.
