CERES Permaculture and Bushfood Nursery
CERES Permaculture & Bushfood Nursery provides a unique experience for all who visit. As a Permaculture nursery our aim is to encourage backyard food production. Whether you have room for a food forest or simply a window box for herbs we supply a vast array of plants to grow and enjoy in your garden, as well as providing the knowledge and support to do so. The nursery is a place to relax, and take positive action towards creating a better world. Planting a beautiful, healthy and productive garden filled with food is one of the most creative and peaceful ways to sustain individual and planetary health.
The nursery stocks an extensive seasonal range of food plants, including citrus, stone fruit, berries, herb and vegetable seedlings and many rare and unusual varieties. Our seedling range includes a selection of certified organic herbs and seedlings that are grown here at CERES. You can also start your own organic plants from seed; we have a large range of non hybrid, open pollinated seed including heirloom vegetable varieties. The nurseries horticultural selection includes native, indigenous and bushfood plants, we can advise on which species are suitable for all types of gardens including low water use.
CERES Nursery encourages sustainable gardening through a focus on healthy soil. Using compost, manure, mulch and certified organic fertilizers are some of the methods that can assist in building soil fertility; this ensures that plants become healthier and more resistant to pests and diseases. Within the nursery, plants are cared for without the use of pesticides and herbicides. Organic solutions are used whenever necessary while our friendly chickens wander around the nursery eating snails, slugs and other garden pests.
Nursery staff are qualified in Horticulture and Permaculture and are passionate about sharing their knowledge of in a way that is relevant and accessible to the home gardener. We can help with information about all aspects of composting and worm farming and we stock compost worms, worm farms and compost bins suitable for homes, schools and small commercial situations.
For those wishing to expand their knowledge of organic gardening, our selection of books covers many topics including Permaculture, soil health, fruit and vegetable gardening, organic pest and disease control, chicken care, native and bushfood plants, biodynamic gardening, companion planting and much more. The nursery runs an annual Permaculture Design Certificate Course as well as many other one and two day workshops on topics including garden design, organic vegetable gardening, and fruit tree pruning, bushfoods and more. Our workshops and courses can give you the information and inspiration to create the garden of your dreams.
The nursery is open seven days a week from 9am until 5pm. We are happy to provide a box to take home your purchases and appreciate customers who are able to bring their own bag or container. The Nursery has bulk liquid fertiliser, so bring a bottle and fill up to save money and packaging. In order to cut down on plastic pot waste we have a pot recycling system, if our pot crate has space, you are welcome to leave usable plastic pots in it, these are free for CERES visitors to take, so help yourself! CERES is a great place to ride your bike to and nursery staff are happy to assist you to load up your bike with plants, worms or even pea straw.
