What is CERES?
The Centre for Education & Research in Environmental Strategies, also named for the ancient Roman Goddess of Agriculture. CERES is a ‘not-for-(financial)-profit’ community organisation working towards a vision of sustainability involving profound transformation in people & communities. Transformed from a rubbish dump 26 years ago, CERES is a 10 acre community environment park on the Merri Creek in the inner-north of Melbourne, Australia. It is a place for community to gather, experiment, learn & celebrate the sustainability journey.
What does CERES do?
CERES features environmental education programs delivered to thousands of students a year, adult education programs, permaculture & bushfood nursery, organic market, sustainability catering, café & a range of other social enterprises, renewable energy, waste & water demonstration facilities, a range of festivals, events & site groups, & space to simply enjoy the company of others amidst fresh air & an atmosphere of hope & passion for life.
How is CERES funded?
CERES enterprises generate about 75% of the organisation’s income. The rest is sourced from grants & other support. For this, & so much more, CERES depends on its community membership base, donations & partnerships with a range of organisations.
What’s the current opportunity for which CERES requires support?
CERES is experiencing a phase of rapid growth as society gravitates towards sustainability. Awarded the 2007 Premier's Sustainability Award, CERES is experiencing a phase of rapid growth as society gravitates towards sustainability. 75,000 student programs delivered, 270 schools engaged in sustainable schools initiatives, visitor numbers doubled in 2 years to 300,000 last year, realising 25% further growth in annual turnover now in excess of $5 million. This presents plenty of opportunities, & significant hope, which CERES is ideally placed to work with, with your support.
