Community Kitchen

The Community Kitchen is a registered commercial kitchen demonstrating state of the art green technology and sustainable design and is available to hire by groups and individuals.


The Community Kitchen comfortably fits up to twelve people to cook and larger groups can be accommodated by combining the Community Kitchen and the Lower Merri meeting room – perfect for large workshops or events.

The kitchen has recently acquired a license for food to be prepared onsite for external sale. If you are a food business you need to be registered with Moreland Council as using our premises.

The kitchen can be used for:

  • Social cooking – eg. group dinners or big batch cooking
  • Cooking classes and workshops
  • Hospitality training
  • Food businesses preparing food for sale
  • Product Demonstrations
  • Self catered parties or events
  • Team building days
  • Recipe testing
  • Community cooking days – eg. preserving

The kitchen can be hired alone or with a facilitator. CERES is a registered training organisation delivering Certificate II in Hospitality and we can also tailor an accredited or pre-accredited hospitality training program to suit your group.

We also provide facilitated team building sessions for those of you that want to connect through the joy of cooking!

Are you a local artisan producer or start up small food business looking for a kitchen to prepare food for external sale? The CERES Community Kitchen is registered and can be hired to produce food onsite that is then sold externally. If you are a food business and wish to use our kitchen you must be registered as a food business with Moreland City Council with the CERES Community Kitchen listed as a food preparation premise.

If you are interested in using the kitchen for food preparation please fill out the form below with details of your food business before registering with council.

For more information about food business registration visit Moreland City Council’s website. Moreland City Council uses Streatrader, an online application for temporary and mobile food premises. Please contact Council on 03 9240 1111 for more information and to allow time for your application to be processed.
The Lower Merri Room is located right next door to the kitchen, separated by bi-fold doors that can open out into one larger space. The larger space is perfect for functions where you wish to use the kitchen but need a larger space either to run a bigger workshop, cooking demo or function.

Morning 9am – 1pm $176
Afternoon 1:30pm – 5:30pm $176
All day 8:30am – 5:30pm $352
Evening 6pm – 10pm $176

Current availability is primarily weekends and school holidays.

These hire rates include GST and are for the kitchen only. Please contact us to enquire about pricing for hiring the Lower Merri room in conjunction with the kitchen, and for hire rates for ongoing bookings.
