CERES is host to a wide range of festivals, events, concerts, performances and corporate and community days each year, as well as a number of private celebrations. As a lush green outdoor venue in an urban setting, with excellent access via public transport, CERES is the ideal location for unique intimate or public events from 50 – 1200 people.

Sustainable event practice
In line with CERES stated aims, we request that all event organisers give due consideration to the sustainability of their event practices. This should be reflected in all proposals, plans, supplier selection and management and delivery of events, both at CERES and elsewhere.
Festival and event area
The south east corner of CERES is the dedicated festival and event site, encompassing the Village Green, the Village Pavilion and the surrounding nature play area. The Village Green is a rare and magical green space, surrounded by trees and right next to Merri Creek, and is one of the park’s most established venue options, while the Village Pavilion is the newest space available as the result of the original CERES Cafe transformation, an open walled sheltered space in the heart of the site.

Within the site there is access to power and running water, the main CERES toilets and restricted vehicle access for bump in and bump out via an approved traffic management plan. The site has multiple access points and for major ticketed events fencing and security is required to enclose the space.
As an outdoor venue CERES may hold a maximum of six major amplified music events per financial year, in accordance with EPA regulations. Due to high demand these major event opportunities are allocated following an annual application process that takes place at the start of each calendar year for the next financial year. Major events have a maximum capacity of 1200 attendees and are permitted to reach 65dBA at the nearest noise sensitive location.
The remaining events at CERES are lower impact, small to medium in nature, and either free events or limited release tickets for less than 600 people.

Daytime events, those with a focus on food, performance or music events with acoustic acts are generally best suited as these events must keep our neighbours happy by operating within EPA regulated noise limits. Medium events have a maximum capacity of 600 attendees and must register below 55dBA at the nearest noise sensitive location.
Applications are open year round and are charged by duration, dependent on the type of event and level of on site support required. A typical market festival operating from 12pm – 6pm costs approximately $1400 for all day access.
CERES has a dedicated weekly market, the Makers & Flea Market, held in the market turnaround just outside the Organic Grocery every Saturday. For those wishing to run their own specialised Sunday market there are three dedicated market locations on site. Main CERES Entry
The main CERES entry is the highest profile location on site with a capacity of twelve 3m x 3m sites
The Energy Park at CERES is an undulating corner of the site featuring a range of energy specific educational displays. The capacity of the Energy Park varies depending on the layout and pathways used for the market, ranging from twelve to thirty 3m x 3m sites.
As CERES already operates a number of enterprises on site applications for markets in these locations may not include any food, beverage or plant stalls.
There is no power or water access at market sites.
Only background music (e.g. ipod and small speakers) is permitted at any market site.
Stallholders must park in the overflow car park at the Cretan Bros (cnr Nicholson & Stewart St) after unloading at the appropriate locations. CERES is a car free site and vehicles are only permitted in designated car park spaces.
CERES is currently accepting applications for major events and festivals for the 2017/ 2018 financial year. Applications are open until Monday 17th April 2017, with successful applicants notified in May for events commencing July onwards.
Market days or small to medium festival and event applications are accepted year round and assessed on a case by case basis.
In order to apply to hold an event at CERES a proposal must be submitted covering the following points:
Proposed date and time
Provide details of your proposed event including the overall event concept:
Does the event inspire, provoke, nurture or educate?
Is it inviting to a large cross section of the local community?
Is it a charity event, multicultural event or some other unique form of event?
Are there any commercial aspects of the event? e.g proposed sponsorship or ticket prices?
What are the proposed access times including bump in and bump out?
Is any major infrastructure to be brought onto site?
Do you have an intended waste management plan with a focus on sustainability, composting and recycling?
Have you thought about a wide variety of food stallholders that are not limited to commercial food vendors?
Can you demonstrate awareness and understanding of EPA noise regulations and noise management planning?
Is there a broad range of musical styles on offer that are not overly impactful on our nearby neighbours?
Is there a dominance of bass, drums or brass instruments?
Is there diversity beyond electronic music with predominant 4/4 beats or heavy bass?
Have you used the CERES site before in a way which was respectful, consistent and in alignment as above?
What other events have you organised prior?
Can you provide contacts from other event sites on request?
As CERES is bordered by residential properties all events are required to submit a noise management plan including a commitment to conducting regular noise measurements on the day, agreement to abide by EPA regulations and as an additional requirement imposed by CERES are permitted no more than 5 hours of continuous music. Many events interject comedy, circus or other non music performances into their schedule to meet this requirement. All music and entertainment, including sound checks, is not permitted prior to 12pm and must conclude by 10pm sharp.
We are incredibly mindful that electronic and bass driven music travels further and has a greater impact than other music styles. For this reason this music style is restricted to major events only, and all electronic music is required to finish by 8pm.
A CERES site supervisor conducts regular sound checks at five points at the CERES perimeter at regular intervals at every amplified event and liaises with the event organiser and sound technicians to meet EPA requirements. In the circumstance in which an event breaches regulation and refuses to comply with the EPA regulations CERES reserves the right to cancel the event.
