The Seven Stars
Established in partnership with Adult Multicultural Education Service (AMES) in 2007, The Seven Stars is a small social enterprise that celebrates local grown organic food, cultural heritage and creates social connections.
7 stars is operated by local Turkish and Kurdish women from the Alevi Community and provides the women with regular employment opportunities. Originally the project involved 7 women (hence the name!) and today two of the original participants remain connected to the project with others going onto other employment opportunities or leaving due to family needs.
Operating from our wonderful Merri Table cafe, the women make traditional dips, boreks (spinach and fetta pastries) and biscuits that are available for purchase at our Grocery, Fair Food and the Merri Table social enterprises. The women also provide catering for our room hire groups who attend CERES. The catering reflects the knowledge and traditional food cultures of the Turkish and Kurdish women who make up The Seven Stars.
“Loving the larger size Seven Stars hommus- means I can have my favourite snack / breakfast / lunch all the time, toast, hommus, tomato, parsley and chilli. This is the best hommus I have ever tasted” – Fair Food Customer (March 2017)
If you are interested in catering please contact The Merri Table on 9389 0166 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
