Weddings at CERES: The Basics

We love hosting heartfelt, down to earth weddings for our community. 

CERES is an urban farm, a creek-side oasis, a thriving community hub and vibrant home for social enterprise in Melbourne – all the good things! We celebrate couples who host genuine, sustainable weddings in Melbourne. Read on for more details on CERES Weddings.

What we offer

CERES Weddings offer exclusive access to our wedding spaces; unique natural venues in the heart of Melbourne; access to CERES-hired equipment; and the provision of our CERES Event Supervisor on the day. See these pages for: venue options, ideas for sustainable events, catering suggestions, and information for suppliers (eg how to access CERES on the day). CERES Weddings is a venue hire service. We do not currently include event management on the day – that is, the run sheet, decoration and event-day logistics.

Availability & Bookings

We take bookings up to 12 months in advance. We’d love to hear your vision for the day. Please send us your preferred date via the ‘Weddings Inquiry’ tab on the right (and some backup dates) and we’ll take it from there!

Quote

Melbourne venues vary a lot, but the minimum charge is around $1500, with many coming in between $3000 – $4000. CERES Venue Hire includes exclusive access to the CERES site, equipment hire, equipment setup and pack-down, as well as noise monitoring and vehicle access. We offer a ceremony-only booking (up to 4 hours) and ceremony+reception booking (up to 8 hours). Additional hours are charged on a per hourly rate. We require a 20% non-refundable deposit to secure your venue hire booking. Equipment hire and final guest numbers can be finalised closer to the date. All wedding bookings entail a security deposit (in addition to the booking fee), which is refunded, pending cleaning costs, after the event.

CERES Wedding Supervisor:

Our CERES Weddings & Venue Hire team will enable your venue booking, offer site visit of ceremony & reception locations, and provision of an Events Supervisor to oversee the venue on the day. Your Supervisor will:

  • Enable vehicle access to the site.
  • Setup and pack-down of CERES equipment
  • Setup signage to direct your guests to the venue.
  • Monitor noise levels and request volume to be lowered, if required, according to our EPA guidelines.
  • Provide (limited) recycling and landfill bins. We also have a composting service available.

Note: All additional decoration, setup, pack-down and waste clean up is the responsibility of the client. Please ensure you have adequately briefed your helpers on your setup and pack-down plan, before the day.

Event Times:

We recommend an early start and early finish. We recommend a minimum of 2.5-3 hours setup and 1.5 hours pack-down, plus ceremony and/or reception. Booking times need to include the full duration of setup and packdown. All event supplies need to be packed down on the day of the event. Out of respect to our neighbours and in line with our EPA agreements, all amplified sound must be off by 10pm & all patrons vacated by 10.30pm.  We therefore event finish time – pre-packdown and guests departing – from 9.30pm.

Venues & Location:

Head to our Venues page for details on special spots at CERES for a wedding. CERES is a large site with multiple entry points. Access for wedding guests is via the CERES Main Entrance (corner Roberts St and Stewart St, Brunswick East). Access for vehicle and suppliers is via Lee St (not the CERES main entrance). Please ensure your caterers/helpers are familiar with the correct access point to the site. See the Suppliers page for reference. 

Accessibility:

Most of CERES is universally accessible, however some areas offer gravel paths and can be affected by wet weather. We provide vehicle access to within 50 metres of the ceremony or reception location, if required. There are wheelchair accessible toilets located within the site. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch with specific questions. 

Photos: 

You are welcome to take photos on site (and along the Merri Creek!). We ask for a $100 donation for photos on site, which we are happy to waive in exchange for sharing your photos with CERES for promotional purposes. Your Event Supervisor can enable access to photo locations. You are also welcome to have photos with our famous CERES Chooks! By arrangement, $120 donation to Honey Lane Chooks. Feel free to ask us about local photographers.
