Science Communication Volunteer Position Description

Background:  

CERES’ resource use is directed by an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) that provides goals and actions to reduce resource use for energy, water and waste and to increase biodiversity outcomes. Communication is an essential component of the delivery of the EMP and cultural behaviour change initiatives. It’s also very important in our leadership role into the wider community.

Supervisor: Sieta Beckwith – Communications Manager
Team: Communications Team (with support from Habitat Team)

Objective

To assist in a variety of communication tasks required for the sharing of Green Technology information and stories to the CERES community, our partners and to the general community.

Tasks

  • Interview relevant staff about Green Tech activities and write articles, blogs or assist in developing podcasts for a variety of media.
  • Assist in the updating of communication collateral such as brochures, signage and flyers
  • Assist in preparing resources to help in environmental behaviour change initiatives
  • Act as a test audience for communications written by others
  • Research and provide a summary of findings to the Green Technology team on topics as needed.

Training:

A basic induction is given to working at CERES, as well as tour of the site and facilities. Training will be on the job with the support of the Communications and Habitat teams.


Times / Days:

Tuesdays 10am – 4pm

Commitment Required:

A minimum of 3 months is preferred. Consistent attendance is needed to be a valuable team member and will make it easier for the supervisor to plan tasks in advance.

Skills / Experience:

  • Proven ability to write in an engaging approachable manner, for a variety of media including social media, power points, presentations, formal and informal reports, partnership proposals and grants applications. Please supply examples of your work.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainability technologies
  • Basic design and web design skills

  • Attention to detail, reliable and resourceful.
  • Commitment to CERES and its values and code of behaviour.
