CERES Merri Cafe is no ordinary hospitality business

Serving a changing menu of local, organic, seasonal and vegetarian wholefoods in a welcoming and casual space, The Merri Café provides a lunch and catering service to CERES visitors and the community. The Merri Café is a licensed restaurant with menus showcasing the best products from
our Victorian producers and farmers.

The Merri Café Assistant Manager plays a key role in the daily operations of the cafe enterprise. Working closely with the Cafe Manager to ensure the smooth running of the cafe, they will be responsible for high-quality customer service, supervising staff and daily financial and inventory management.

Where you come in

We are looking for an experienced person with a passion for positive customer service, and delicious local food and who knows quality organic coffee and can deliver perfect coffee every time. This individual cares about maintaining quality and welcoming customer service in a fast-paced
environment. Weekend work and some evenings are required.

You will make an impact by:

● Creating a delicious, abundant, seasonal food service inspires people to think about their food choices.
● Working with the Merri Cafe Manager to ensure that all front of house staff are working to deliver high-quality food and service and that customer needs are met
● Ensure the smooth running of the enterprise daily and maintain the ongoing financial viability of the enterprise.

Does this sound like you?

You are an experienced hospitality manager with proven experience in customer relationship management and daily financial management. You are a welcoming presence for customers and comfortable working within a team and independently. You are passionate about celebrating locally and ethically grown, seasonal organic food products and are keen to make a difference.

This role requires:

● Proven hospitality management and customer service experience, with an interest in and commitment to local, seasonal and organic foods.
● Industry experience in a similar fast-paced restaurant environment.
● Proven experience in supervising and coordinating a team.
● Appropriate hospitality qualifications such as current RSA, Food safety certificate.
● Financial management skills including invoicing, cash reconciliation, costings and working within a budget.
● Excellent communication skills.
● Ability to work weekends.

● Proven event management experience including functions and catering.
